Q. Is reflexology just another one of those New Age fads that will go away like fad diets?

A. The practice of reflexology is both old and new.
Ancient texts and tomb drawings tell us that the early Egyptians, Chinese, Japanese, Russians and Indians worked on the feet to promote good health.
In Europe reflexology was practiced as far back as the 14th century.
The American influence occurred in the early years of the 20th century.  Dr. Fitzgerald divided the body into zones, which he used for an unaesthetic effect.
Eunice Ingham (1889-1974) charted the feet in relation to the zones, and their effects on the rest of the anatomy.  She is recognized as the founder of foot reflexology. As scientific research studies increase,  the practice will not go away, but rather will be complementary to accepted modern medical practices.
