What is the purpose of microdermabrasion? Does it hurt?

Is it for everyone?

Microdermabrasion is a highly powerful mechanical exfoliation technique that benefits many common dermal issues: congested, normal to dry skin, as well as oily, problematic skin that needs resurfacing,  draws out whiteheads and blackheads, softens fine lines and wrinkles, helps smooth coarsely textured skin,  and with a series of treatments: age spots, acne scars and blemishes may be diminished.

The painless procedure takes about 30 minutes and there is no down-time for the skin to recover. That is why its been given the nickname “lunchtime peel”.   You will leave the spa feeling absolutely cleansed and new, your skin will be glowing, radiant and ready to show off!

For the best results, it is generally recommended to receive a series of treatments.  Along with a continuous skin care regiment at home with recommended products by your aesthetician.

There are some contraindications for Microdermabrasion but because the machine can be adjusted depending on skin type and condition, even people with sensitive skin can get a treatment from a skilled esthetician.  Some of the contraindications are: extremely sensitive skin, unstable diabetes, vascular conditions like active rosacea, skin inflammation, bacterial infections, lack of tactile sensation, keloid scarring, cuts and abrasions, or have gotten Botox within 72 hours. Other contraindications to microdermabrasion include sunburn, viral infections like herpes simplex, and active acne. If you are taking anti-coagulant drugs.
