Pre Wedding Brazilian Wax Jitters

Thinking about waxing before your wedding?  If the thought of a first time Brazilian or bikini wax is giving you the jitters, you are not alone.  Here is a question that recently came in from a reader and I thought it was worth sharing with everyone.
I am going on my honeymoon on for 2 weeks in Hawaii! I have never had a bikini wax before and I was even considering a Brazilian. When do you recommend getting a wax for my trip? I want to stay smooth for the time we will be away, but I am afraid of bumps and bruising if I schedule it too close to the trip. My skin is very fair and sensitive. I am usually red for an hour or two after a lip or eyebrow wax. Thanks for your help!

If you are planning your first bikini or Brazilian bikini waxing for your wedding, do not leave it to the last minute because you don’t know how your skin will react.  The first thing I recommend you do, weeks in advance, is to plan a consultation at a reputable place.  Read online reviews or get recommendations from friends. If it means driving an extra 15-20 minutes for a Brazilian wax expert, believe me, it will be well worth it.

Before the consultation, be sure to make a full list of any medications you are currently taking as well as prescription and over-the-counter skin care products you are using.  Do not go in the sun 24 hours before or after your consultation.

During the consultation, your skin will be examined and in some cases the technician can perform a test wax on a small area of your bikini line to see how your skin will react.

Speak to the technician about your wedding date and when would be the best time for your particular skin to be waxed.  Also, see how your skin reacts 24 hours after the waxing and share any concerns with your technician (redness, irritation, swelling, etc).

By choosing a reputable, professional and most important—an experienced skin care professional-you can ensure a healthy and satisfactory waxing experience before your big day.

I hope that helps you plan your waxing experience.  Good luck on the big day!
