Can You Get Waxed If You Were Once Burned By Wax?

Question: Hi Valentine, please help! My daughter got her eyebrows waxed and her skin was torn a little, it was nearly infected.  Does this mean she can’t be waxed again?   She hates her bushy brows!

Valentina:  I am sorry to hear of your daughter’s experience.  Whenever you go for waxing in a professional facility, an intake form should be completed by the client to disclose all information regarding any products you may be using on your skin, or any lifestyle activities that may make waxing dangerous (i.e., sun tanning).  If this is not done, I do not recommend continuing to use this particular business for services.

Teens are especially at risk for burns or tears from waxing.  Teens are frequently fighting acne and are therefore using products that can make their skin extra sensitive to waxing.  Most teens don’t understand what products or what ingredients are dangerous to use before waxing, therefore, the technician must be knowledgeable enough to know and understand.

Salicylic acid and Retin A are two popular acne fighting ingredients that can be dangerous to combine with facial waxing.  A professional /experienced aesthetician should be aware and never perform waxing unless the client stops using the products in question 10 days before the appointment.  Even after the product use has been temporarily stopped, a small test patch should be performed on outer corner of brow to see how skin reacts.  The wax should be very low temperature and the aesthetician should first check the temperature on their own wrist to make sure the wax is cool enough to use on sensitive skin.

If your skin tears, immediately cool the skin by applying Aloe Vera gel.  Then, for continued treatment I recommend using Cicalfate by Avene.  This is a great rescue cream that every single family should have in their refrigerator for any skin irritation, dermatitis, sun burn, or wax burn.  You can call me at my Spa to order the cream (732.222.8611). We can ship anywhere within the US.

If you are not sure which product you are using may have caused your skin to become sensitive and tear, bring your products to your aesthetician.   Any educated aesthetician should be able to read the ingredients in your products and tell you if you can or can’t use these products before you get waxed.

If you need to be on a medication that controls acne and you do not want to discontinue using it, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have your eyebrows done.  You can get tweezed instead of waxed.  A professional can tweeze with very little pain.

I hope this helps answer your question.  Please feel free to email me if you need further explanation.

Hello. My name is Christine Cirillo and I am a beauty advisor and make up artist for Christian Dior and Valentina happened to be doing an eyebrow shaping and waxing event at the Lord n Taylor in the Monmouth Mall. I WISH I would have met her sooner!!! I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for years now and I will never go back threading them ever again!!!! Valentina brought to my attention how badly my eyebrows were damaged from getting them threaded. I had so many bald spots in my eyebrows and hairs were growing in all different directions. Valentina you totally saved my eyebrows and I have never felt so comfortable before in my life. You had me relaxed and SHOWED me where my brows were funky! When people say you are a miracle worker they are not kidding. I can’t wait to see you again! I had a wonderful experience and now I have wonderful eyebrows thanks to you!!!!!!

  2. Hello everyone.
I have something to say, about aloe Vera, something about which you wrote above, about health and weight management… For a long time, I and my friend use the products of the forever living company. We usually see the good results and also we make money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with Aloe vera in the company of forever living products has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the Forever Living Products and has a wife and three children). I know aloe Vera products for skin care for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the Forever Living Company.
Of course, the job is so hard, but in no other case, you can earn so much much money with so much fun and smiling faces around…
So if you want to discuss something about which you wrote above, and about my experience with Aloe products for skin care, I’ll always be glad to talk.

Best regards from Washington and have a nice day!
