How Long Before A Big Event Should You Get Waxed?

So you have a big event to go to?  Maybe a wedding? Maybe your own wedding?  You’ll definitely want to be ‘hair-free’ for the occasion and make sure no stubborn strays are anywhere to be seen.  But we all have experienced the occasional pitfalls of waxing; redness that lasts a little longer than we expected….some pesky whiteheads that just won’t go away….you know….we’ve all been there before.  So how can you make sure that you are sleek and smooth for an event while avoiding the tell-tale signs of a recent waxing experience?

Waxing Appointments for First Timers

One of the best ways to avoid embarrassing after-wax reactions is to know your body. If you regularly get waxed, you know how your skin reacts and how long any reaction takes to go away.

If you are a newbie to the waxing world, I suggest you go for a test run well in advance of your event.  If this is going to be your first time waxing a particular body part, make an appointment at least 6 weeks in advance of your event.  There are 2 reasons why I suggest a preliminary appointment 6 weeks in advance:

1) You will be able to see what, if any, reaction you might have from the wax and how long it takes to go away

2) 6 weeks will leave you plenty of time to grow your hair back for your waxing appointment that leads right up to your big event.

Waxing Before the Big Event

Once you’ve determined how your skin reacts to waxing, it’s time to schedule your wax appointment before your big event.  I usually recommend an appointment about 4 days in advance of your event.  The first 24 hours after waxing can show some redness, on anyone.  So it’s best to wait a few days and let any redness subside.  There won’t be any new hair that grows within the 4 days, so you’ll still be smooth and shiny for the big day!

Remember; choose your wax salon carefully.  Only go to a reputable place that is state license to perform waxing services and be sure that all technicians are licensed by the state to perform waxing services.  Ask your friends, read a review online, those are the best ways to ensure a safe and satisfactory wax experience!
